I apologize. Today is Thursday June 6th, and I am sorry. My last post was April 29th, over 5 weeks ago.
First, I would like to tell you about what is coming up, then I’ll let you know what has been happening in the MOB News Sphere.
Tonight there are two things to be excited about:
Nick Mardon / Emerald City Guitars JAM at the Central Saloon in Seattle’s Pioneer Square (every first Thursday). Why is this cool? ECG brings out their own backline, so if you choose to show up you can play some cool, vintage, and maybe rare equiment. Epic. Nick won’t actually be there tonight, he has a show in Tacoma, but the Jam will be hosted by Skylar Mehal, Scotty Harris, and Bill Ray. That is an outstanding line-up if there ever was one.
Also our good friend and MOBster Jack Gravalis has a Jam at Cafe Racer in Capitol Hill. Goes until midnight, and I believe it is funk-oriented.
Also this week:
Friday June 7th: Jesse James SOLO at Patterson Cellars, Hollywood Hills location. 6-8pm. Wine and Pizza, no cover charge.
Saturday June 8th: Jesse James and the MOB at Bubba’s Roadhouse. 8pm-11. Home of the Famous Bubba’s Burger. No cover.
The rest of June:
6/14 – Jesse James and the MOB – Four Corners Bar and Grill – 8pm
6/15 – Cody Bartels (Jesse James on Guitar) – Rockport Bar and Grill – 8pm
6/27 – Cody Bartels DUO (w/Jesse James) – Taverna Tagaris – 7pm
6/28 – Cody Bartels (Jesse James on Guitar) – T Post Tavern – 8pm
6/29 – Jesse James SOLO – Tastebuds – 6pm
Check these shows out, they’re sure to be a good time.
Where we last left off was April 29th. The following weekend was pretty eventful. Friday May 3rd I did a DUO show with Cody Bartel’s in Wamic Oregon. The venue was called the Stockyard and they had great food. It seemed to be the only place in town, Wamic was tiny. It kind of reminds you of a certain Netflix documentary about a place nearby called Antelope OR.
Adri and I took the whole day off and went to our favorite Georgian Restaurant in Vancouver and also tried out some coffee in Portland before heading to Wamic.
The following day was the whole Cody Bartels and the Evergreen Playboys band at the T-Post Tavern in Walla Walla. Not only does this place have a cool stage and regular country music, they also have great BBQ and burgers which they grow themselves.
We couldn’t sleep in too much because the following day we had to get back in time for the Peabo’s music in Mill Creek. I got to host the affair with Tommy Cook on Drums, Scotty Harris on Bass, and Eric Rice on guitar. Nick Mardon also came by and played with us the whole time. I had intended to learn some Mexican songs for Cinco de Mayo but I had been too busy and it didn’t pan out.
The following weekend I played SOLO at Birdsview Brewing. I love the drive up there and the wonderful people at the brewery as well as the locals in Birdsview are always so welcoming and appreciative of live music.
May 17, 18, and 19 were all with Cody. We did a band show on Friday in Olympia that was pretty epic. We taped the whole thing (audio only) so maybe it will get edited so we can hear some of it.
May 18th was a duo show in Port Orchard. This was my first gig on U Bass. What a fun instrument, and I think that the mix of the little bass and the acoustic guitar gives so much energy.
May 19th we opened for Zan Fiskum at the Spanish Ballroom in Tacoma. All I have to say is: Wow Skylar Mehal rips on guitar! Also I was very grateful to play through his Princeton for our set. That amp sounds delicious. I want one.
The following weekend the MOB played at the Easy Monkey on the 24th with Tommy Wall on the bass, and at Club Crown on the 25th with Nate Sharp on the bass. Both shows were a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who came out.
Last weekend we did something really cool. We filmed a set of Joel Astley and his band at The Spar in Tacoma. I’ve already looked through the audio and the footage, and I am super excited about what we’re going to be able to put out from this. I think that the band and the music is really rad and the whole project is going to look and sound great.
There are some new videos up on youtube as well. Check them out:
